Waiting on biopsy results

Hi everyone

Never did I think I would be in a 'Cancer Chat' forum

I had a mole removed yesterday, fully aware it will most likely come back clear although from reading many of the posts on here I've realised I'm not alone in thinking the worst.

I really just wanted to ask if anyone had any pictures they would be willing to share of moles that turned out to be malignant ( not even sure if that's the right term to use)

I really apologize if it's inappropriate of me to ask that, the dermatologist was giving nothing away and simply said it had to be removed but some pics on google that are Melanoma look nothing like mine and some look exactly like it.

Again I am so sorry if this is completely the wrong thing to be asking

  • Hi Louise,

I'm afraid photos are not allowed to be uploaded onto a post, as per the forum terms & conditions.

The problem with trying to see if your mole matches someone's melanoma is that melanomas can look very different to each other (as you will have seen on the different google images). Also, a mole that looks like a melanoma doesn't always mean it is! Some moles are dysplastic (atypical) - these moles are benign but the cell structure is slightly different & has the ability to turn cancerous in the future in some cases. It's very hard for a dermatologist to tell what is dysplastic & what is melanoma & that is why a biopsy is necessary. If yours turns out to be dysplastic they will monitor your other moles for a short time to ensure they are not dysplastic too.

I think you are only putting yourself through more stress by searching images of melanoma. It's better to accept that you've done the right thing by having it removed and focus on getting through the wait for the results. Distract yourself completely from melanoma or you will make yourself more stressed.

Good luck with your results and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi Angie

Thank you so much for your reply

I did have a notion it wouldnt be allowed, sorry again for asking

Everything you are saying is spot on, I'm just hoping after a day or 2 I'll calm down in myself and settle a bit, I only had the mole looked at last Wednesday (week today) by the GP so everything has happened really quickly.

I hope everything is well with you? xxx

  • Hi Louise. I hope you don't mind me replying, I too had a mole removed. It was on 2nd March so I'm currently 2 weeks into waiting for my results. I've managed to keep myself busy, however today my mind is really running away from me and I don't know where to turn.

    I hope you're okay xx
