Worried about Bowel Cancer

Hi apologies for long post but just want some reassurance.

I have had severe abdominal and pelvic pains for 1 year now but recently had changes in stools and backache etc.

I went to the GP and they sent me for a ultrasound to rule out any problems with ovaries etc. That came back fine so then I had to chase to have urine, blood and Stool test.

Got results two days ago urine is fine, full blood count fine but they did another blood test which said CRP is raised and the stool test is positive and raised at 350. My GP said he is doing a urgent referal to a Gastroenterologist. At the time I was in the middle of work and abit shocked so didn't ask any questions.

Has anyone else had similar symptoms, how long is a urgent referral and is this a indicator of possible bowel cancer?

Im just worrying as getting married this year and want to be able to enjoy fully without having this worry.

  • It could just be IBD... crohns or colitis, have a google about those symptoms. I was diagnosed with crohns after a MRI Scan and reffered urgently to my gastro for an emergency operation within 3 days to remove an intestinal block. I wouldnt have to have had the surgery and a big scar if my GP's listened to me 2 years prior. But hey ho. Push and fight for tests and your welness!

PS. Best thing to do is not worry. If it is an autoimmune disease, it feeds off stress and that can make your symptoms worse.

  • Thank you for your response.

I am hoping that it is just IBD but just wished I had asked more questions and trying to get hold of my GP is a nightmare at the moment.

Did you have similar symptoms to be diagnosed with Crohns  then?

  • No worries! You'll be on the mend soon I'm sure and celebrating your wedding harder than ever!

I was officially diagnosed at 18 but I had crohns since 15/16. It was a battle to get any tests done as the gps kept saying i was too young, it was school stress, puberty and one even said an eating disorder . But when you know something isn't right in your body you know. I had abdominal pains, changes in stools, fatigue, loss of appetite and when they eventually ordered a blood test to check CRP, it was high. I must have been 17 at the time just going to university. Had to have emergency surgery at 18 after further tests and an MRI. Your gastro will get to the bottom of your problems (pun not intended). I always found GPs to be useless and my gastro and his team to be superb!

I honestly wouldn't wish crohns on anyone but it's becoming very commonly diagnosed. But there is ways to help sooth symptoms!
