hard unmovable lymp nodes in neck - emergency referral

Hi everyone,

I'm a worried 24 year old mother of 2 desperate for some advice

Before Christmas I noticed a small hard lump in my neck, this has grown and grown and now can be seen under my skin, and another has appeared just below. I have been to the doctors who told me it was my lymph nodes and said because I've lost weight (nearly 2 stone) and having night sweats as well as the lymph nodes being hard and unmovable I needed an emergency referral to haematology  in 6 days time

has anyone been through similar - what was the outcome if you hard hard swollen unmovable lymph nodes?

what should I expect seeing the haematologist?

i hate the fear of the unknown - cancer (particularly lymphoma) been mentioned and it does run in my family but obviously nothing can be said about what it really is, but the urgency is worrying although I know it's protocol.

  • Hey!! I've literally been through this process. I had two hard unmovable lumps in my neck. At my appointment with the haematologist it was just a discussion about symptoms I had and previous history and obviously he had a feel. I was then referred to have an ultrasound with a biopsy if they felt I needed one. I had that this morning and was told it was nothing sinister. I have got some symptoms of lymphoma so was worried but am off to the gp tomorrow to see if we can find the cause of my symptoms because I feel rubbish. I am 22 so similar age!

  • Hi,

so sorry I didn't realise you had replied,

I had my appointment today, I'm back again in a couple weeks for the results. had a chest X-ray, more blood and waiting on a ultrasound, he said there was more raised than I could feel, he isn’t sure if it is lymphoma  or not, that’s why I need more tests doing, so just have to wait for the results. I was really hoping he would More or less emply that he didn't think it was anything sinister so I'm abit more worried now

did You end up needing a biopsy?

    thank you for replying

  • Hi,

I didn't end up having a biopsy which I'm a little unsure about because of all of my symptoms but I guess we will just have to wait and see. What other symptoms do you have?

  • Hey,

Aw no have your symptoms not settled? What are they?  Your right it is abit off, I would have thought they'd have to get to the bottom of what was causing them either way, I'm sorry about that!

ive lost nearly 3 stone since before Christmas it just seems to be dropping off me and I didn't realise that was a symptom till they asked, I've been really itchy all over too and then drenching night sweats they're awful, I've been loads more tired than usual, but I was kind of putting it down to the itching and night sweats waking me up but now I'm not so sure what's going on

have you had anything like this too?
it's awful not having an answer

    xx

  • I am extremely tired all the time, really itchy, I've lost a little bit of weight but not a significant amount, i notice my clothes are really baggy rather than seeing a change on the scale. I have an aching pain in my collarbone which is really uncomfortable and sometimes if I'm lying down it feels like my breathing is restricted like someone is sat on my chest. I just generally don't feel right. Like these symptoms have got to be something.

    Xx

  • Hi Robyn

Sorry I've been so busy with all these appointments,

when I went for the ultrasound they said I had the obvious swollen lymph nodes but also they've found growths in my thyroid,

I have no idea what's happening next so I've got my questions now than answers, I still feel just awful and exhausted and the night sweats and itching are driving me insane

as well as the worry , I've lost 3 stone now, how have u got on did you go back to the doctors?

  • The gp was super pointless. Have a telephone appointment with my consultant on Tuesday tho so will be bringing up the advancements in my symptoms. Xx

  • Hi,

I have just came across your post and comments and wondered how you are doing and whether you got a diganosis? I have a hard unmovable lump in my neck that is a odd shape and feel very friend (also have two kids not sure if the tiredness is down to this) very worried. Waiting for my blood test results next week.

    hope your ok.

  • I know this was a little while ago but did you get an outcome?

  • Hi Nics96,

I know you're aware the post Tml111 made was done some time ago but I just wanted to let you know they haven't been back on the forum since then so you may not get to find out how they got on.

I really hope that won't be the case but if you don't receive a reply, do feel free to reach out to others on more active discussions you find about this topic on the forum.

    Kind regards,
