Worried regarding 2 week referral to colorectal consultant

Advice please. Im aged 52 and was referred by my gp for 2 week referral to colorectal 2 months ago. I was suffering from constipation and years of suffering from IBS like symptoms. I've had no previous investigations.

So far I received a letter from the consultant saying they have discussed without seeing me and decided to send me for a CT scan of abdomen and pelvis. I had the ct scan and 2 weeks later I've had a phone call from MRI saying the consultant has requested an MRI of my pancreas and I don't know why. I was given a very quick appointment within days and I'm going tomorrow.

Should I be worried that so quickly after my ct scan they have requested an mri scan of my pancreas? Also I haven't had any other investigations such stool samples or colonoscopy/ sigmoidoscopy. Is this usual practice to go straight for ct scan followed by MRI? Sorry but really worried.

  • Hey, I am very sorry to read that this is happening to you. I would probably be freaked out as well to be honest. The good thing about it is that they're sorting everything quickly so you won't spend ages wondering what's wrong and looking for the worst information on the internet. I hope that the outcome will be as nothing serious I wish u all the best
