Scared

Hi,

Sorry to be graphic or a pest but for the last 8 weeks I have had no interest in food whatsoever and have to force myself to eat anything and between and hour or hour and a half afterwards I have to rush to the toilet where I have D which lately has been a sort of mustard colour and sometimes foul smelling and frothy (sorry) I have also had lots of gas belching and flatulence and generally feel unwell weak and tired and have lost over a stone in 3 weeks. My Doctor had referred me for an ultrasound but this has been rejected twice cos he messed it up but ultrasound told me even if its accepted I'm looking at June at the earliest. Felt so ill last weekend I was taken into a & e where I was given fluids and ecg and lots of bloods taken but everything came back normal so I was sent home. I know you shouldn't Google your symptoms but mine are very common with pancreatic cancer I just wondered if anyone had the same symptoms and what help they got ? I got a telephone appointment with Gastro dept in 2 weeks but don't think there is enough being done to help me

  • I don't have the same symptoms as you, but I hear where you are coming from about the help. It seemed to me that they decided what they thought was wrong then refused to budge.

Two weeks isn't such a long wait and the gastro department will be a lot more useful than your GP. I'm not sure the ultrasound is even that worthwhile to be honest.

Don't overlook the fact that there are numerous, perfectly manageable conditions that would cause the same symptoms.

In the meantime, perhaps try excluding potential culprits from your diet?

  • Thanks for reply I have been excluding lots of things from diet and keeping a food diary even going gluten free but nothing seems to work. Was rushed into hospital earlier in the week Doc there diagnosed malabsorbtion but couldn't or wouldn't speculate on the cause. Just a waiting game by the looks of it and hope for a good outcome. Good luck to you as well

  • Hi Deez

Pancreatic C is my fear too ( justed posted) although my symptoms are different to yours. As PotbellyPookie says, these symptoms might relate to many conditions so hang in there but do politely push for further investigations/answers if you dont think you are neing heard.  Hope you get these and that they are positive. Perhaps the appt in a couple of weeks will help with this.  Good luck.

  • I guess every practice is different, but you could just push for a colonoscopy. I spoke to a few Drs at my surgery and I heard things like "I don't want to subject you to..." or "do you think you could face..." as though they were holding off referring me for my own sake.

I ended up calling and saying in no uncertain terms that I was more than happy to have anything shoved up my bum if it would help solve my issues. This actually worked to some degree and on that call they agreed to refer me to a colorectal surgeon for the procedure.

I went private in the end though - there's one hell of a waiting list by all accounts! But I would definitely suggest gently pushing for further investigation.

  • Thank you and best of luck

  • Thanks I'm gonna suggest anything when I speak to Gastro in 10 days. Had a colonoscopy about 25 years ago but without anaesthetic it was like being dropped naked onto a garden shed from a plane had camera down throat about 3 years ago all that showed was a hiatus hernia. Good luck
