Breast clinic referral for lump

Hi, I found a lump a week ago, went to drs last Monday & got a breast clinic appointment on Thursday 11th. A 2 week wait sounded quick at the time but I'm finding not in reality! I'm struggling with the wait & everything advises to keep distracted which is pretty difficult being in lockdown from Covid with nothing really to do! Has anyone else felt the same while waiting being in an emotional rollercoaster? I'm okay one day then absolutely freaking out the next. Also nervous that I've got to go alone due to Covid & will be receiving results alone with strangers. I'm feeling an immense pressure to be positive & I want to be but am not feeling it. I'm disappointed in myself not being as strong about this as I thought I would be.

  • I've had numerous occasions where a lump has appeared in my breast and twice been recalled after a routine mammogram, so I appreciate that it is a worry.  Each time, mine turned out to be simple cysts, which is the most common reason, especially if they come up very quickly, are a bit mobile or squishy and change size in a matter of days.  On two occasions, I had an FNA (fine needle aspiration) to drain the cyst and that was fine.  The other times they disappeared of their own accord.

Of course you must get all lumps or abnormalities checked out, but I hope that for you it is the usual cause and nothing to worry about.  Hope that helps.  Good luck with your clinic appointments.  The staff are now very used to patients attending alone and I have found them to be especially understanding and kind.

  • Thank you for sharing your experiences, it has helped - thanks fir the good luck wishes too xx
