Specialist found something in my bowel

I had a colonoscopy yesterday and they found something in my bowel - it looked like a big raised red limp with whitehead spots on it.  They have said it is a friable lesion tumour.  I dont know what this means.  They took six biopsies and gave me a tattoo so they could go in again.  The paperwork said he wants me to have a CT scan.  Why would this be?

The specialist said he would come up and talk to me when he had finished his list but the hurse who was looking after me said that he doesnt usually do this and sent me home.  I feel like she did the wrong thing.

I've tried to get hold of his secretary today but the numbers BMI gave me are saying they are not in use.  I've contacted my gynacologists secretary to see if she can give me some contact details.

I am feeling scared and I dont know whats going to happen next.  I cant get hold of anyone and no-one has told me anything.  I just have a report saying tumour and biopsies and I dont understand whats happening.  Can anyone help me get my head round this please?

  • Hello AngelaOR

I'm sorry to hear that you've been left in limbo since your colonoscopy yesterday. I'm afraid that I'm not able to answer your questions but you might want to give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure they would be able to give you some advice and support to help you through the weekend until you can speak to someone.

If you'd like to call them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Jenn thank you so much for responding.

I've just spoken with a lovely nurse who has explained all the terminology and likely timescales and what might happen next etc.

I feel reassured that there could be other reasons for what we saw yesterday and that there are people I can talk to if I'm feeling worried.  I have been on the absolute edge since yesterday and now I am quite calm.

Cancer Research is a charity close to my heart and my chosen charity to donate to but I NEVER thought I might have to speak to you myself about anything like this.  Thank you so much for replying, and to the nurse for explaining, I feel confident I can get help if I need it now x

  • Hello Angela

I'm so pleased that you saw my post and were able to speak to the Nurses this afternoon. I understand how panic-inducing these kinds of things can be and so it's lovely to hear that you're feeling much calmer now.

Do let us know how you get on but also don't the afraid to post or call again if you need to.

    Best wishes,
