Anxious wait for womb biopsy results

Hi,

Just looking for some realistic reassurance that the large percentage of biopsies come back negative.  I'm 51 and had a hysteroscopy for removal of polyps, womb lining (thick 24mm) and cervix biopsies under general anaesthetic last Friday.  She told me my smear came back with mild results, not cancer just could turn into cancer in 20 years which is so common.  This just seems such a coincidence as never had a bad smear result.  Consultant said there were "lots and lots" of polys and I have an appointment for results on 12th March.

Was losing large tissue type stuff and clots at the weekend, spoke to my consultant and she said I had so many polyps she couldn't remove them all and these ones just seem to be falling away ? I have been taking norethisterone for a month or so because I didn't bleed for 4 months then didn't stop bleeding (shockingly sometimes) and that's why I had 2 scans. But it causes me terrible nausea, have anti-sickness tablets now but I get so dizzy I feel faint.  My choice now is to keep taking it and feel awful  but my bleeding might stop, or stop and I'm almost  guaranteed to keep bleeding ! Feels like an impossible situation.

Consultant said she doesn't know what treatment I need until I get biopsy results, but I'm so depressed now. Back to bleeding  heavily and passed awful stuff again yesterday, plus I think I'm worrying about the results although the chance of a bad result should be low.  She said she may get the results today or tomorrow, but feel if I don't hear anything it is more likely not to be urgent.

Any reassurance and if anyone else has had bad reaction to no norethisterone. Thank you

  • Hello Lulaboola

I'm sorry to hear about the health problems that you've been dealing with recently. It sounds as if it's been a really difficult time for you and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about the biopsy results.

I know that many of our members here will agree that this period of waiting for results can be particularly difficult and it's natural to think about all sorts of scenarios.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long to hear from the Consultant but in the meantime, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
