Complex Ovarian Cyst

Hi everyone,

Just messaging for a bit of reassurance really. I was diagnosed with a cyst at my 12 week pregnancy scan in June 2020 had blood tests etc and it was monitored throughout pregnancy. It did grow but I don't think it was suspicious. Twisted in November time so spent some time in hospital where I had lots of blood tests and scans and everything was fine. Other than that I've had no pain apart from the occasional bloated ness and tummy upset but very rarely. I co ntinued to have scans till i gave birth naturally in January of this year to a healthy little boy! My gynaecologist who over saw my pregnancy wanted me to have an ultrasound at 6 week post birth to check cyst and it's a fair size 15x13x13cms and he said it's complex and will need removing. I had more tumour marker blood tests yesterday and he's booked me in for a MRI 'to check for cancer'. (It was the only time he mentioned the word but it's stuck in my brain since yesterday). It will be removed surgically within the next couple of months and a plan is being made in 4 weeks time.  Does this all just sound protocol for a large complex cyst removal or should I worry that it's something more sinister. I may need my left ovary removed and open surgery but he said I will still be left with a functional working ovary, but I have 2 lovely children and not planning on having more.

bearing in mind, in my first pregnancy I had a similar cyst that grew to 24cms and it was removed during my csection and then needed surgery to removed another 10cm cyst 8 months later. Am I just prone to them??

just anxious now as I love my children and hate to think that I could be ill etc. Anxiety runs high as my mum died of cancer 11 years ago at age 52.

thank you

  • I think we're in a similar position except that no-one has mentioned removal of my cysts yet and both ovaries are involved for me. It's a really stressful time.

Just replying to say hello really. Might reply again when I have time to think as i have two kids too and there always seems to be something needing done when you have two kids lol
