Nipple changes

Hi! I would appreciate any advice

i am 18, so I know that it is rare to be cancer, however I feel like sometimes being cautious is best!

last month, I had really bad nipple pain, to the point where I wouldn't touch them. This lasted a week-2 weeks but then no pain. Ever since, I have had nipple changes.

my nipples are: Red, slightly purple around the outside (of the actual nipple not the areola, the areola seems fine) when my nipples are soft, the redness seems to go, however both of the nipples seem to have slight dips in them in the centre which pop back out when cold, or touched. When my nipples are hard they seem to go white-ish and have white spots on the actual nipple.

I have been to my GP, who firstly prescribed me with canesten which didn't work, now they have given me lotriderm to try for 2 weeks. Doctors have told me it may be a fungal infection. my nipples haven't changed in the week of using this new cream but they haven't seemed to gotten worse either

im worried that it could be something more serious. And due to my age I am worried that they won't necessarily take it seriously and think about the possibilities. I would appreciate any advice or if it sounds similar to anything! I understand this isn't to diagnose me with anything but I can't think straight at the moment due to it all!

thank you so much

    Hi Bjones,

A very warm welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms. It is often difficult to persuade GPs to refer younger people to the breast clinic. I am not a doctor. I expect that it could take the two weeks for this new cream to work, but if you still notice no changes, do go back to your GP. It might be worth asking for a referral to the breast clinic, just to make absolutely sure that there is nothing amiss. I'm sure that you would feel more reassured, if you were seen by people who specialise in this field.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine thanks for replying!

Yeah the cream is for two weeks so I'm going to give it two weeks then if it doesn't work go back to my GP.

It's quite scary because I've never had any medical problems to worry about and it's hard due to covid times! I will definitely talk to my GP and see if I can have a referral to a breast clinic.

I really appreciate the reply! :) Xxx
