Lumps in cervix- 2 week wait

Hi

I'm just looking for a little bit of advise. I've been having some abnormal bleeding for the last 6 months, around two weeks before my period I start bleeding a small amount of a brownish colour, I decided to get this checked out as I thought it could have been a infection plus my kidneys have been hurting so I went yesterday for a 3 swab test, the nurse had found something then got another nurse to check before calling the gp into check, the gp sat me down and said they think they know the cause of the bleeding and that my cervix is covered in lumps all around it and that they was referring me on a 2 week wait, they mentioned cervical cancer and gave no alternatives. I had a smear a year ago which came back clear and there were no lumps present then so whatever it is, they have only appeared over the last year.

I am beside myself with worry, I'm 36 years old, have 5 children the youngest being 18 months old.

has anyone else experienced this?

  • Hi Louisedn6,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your worries - I'm sure that hearing the doctor say that must have been difficult and caused worry. I appreciate now you may have a bit of a tough wait for the referral.

It's good that you had a clear smear a year ago, and as it is now an urgent referral it should at least mean you get some answers before too long.

Try if you can to keep your mind off things as much as possible while you wait, keeping busy for distraction.

If anyone here has any similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon.

We're always here for support on the forum if you need it at any point.

    Wishing you all the best,
