Hard moveable lump under both armpits

I just need to handholding and reassurance. I discovered a hard moveable lump in my armpit last week, at the bottom. Now I've felt one in my other armpit a bit higher up. They are certainly not pea sized, more like a bottle top lid. They are both firm ish and move around under the skin. They also feel quite deep down. I'm awaiting my appointment for the breast clinic but I'm so scared as to what this can be. Has anyone had similar at all? Did it turn out to be benign?

  • Thank you so much. I think I've scared myself googling which I know I shouldn't.

  • Hi a19i4 I completely understand what you are going through. I recently found a hard pea size Lump under right underarm whilst I was  having a shower. I instantly frozed on the spot. Panic stricken I rang my Gp straight away and was prescribed a course of antibiotics for 5 days. After 5 days the lump was still there so my Gp asked me to come in for a breast and axillary examination. The gp was bit concerned about the size and depth of the lump and the fact that it had scar tissue on top so referred me to the breast clinic.

After two weeks of agonising wait I went for my appointment at the breast clinic last friday. It was  a very sobering effect. Luckily for me the lump turned out to be a cyst. Most lumps are not cancerous. Only 1 in 10 lumps are cancerous but the drs have to rule everything out as a precaution.

Try not to look on Google as most of the info on there is out of date and made me feel worse as I couldn't sleep or eat properly. Stay positive. I have everything cross for you xx

  • Hey,

    has the lump gone away.
I was told my one is a cyst too in my underarm but it has grown from a pea size to a grape. I'm also on my period so that might have an effect on it too. I'm just dead worried.

  • Hi Mellisa. Hope you are well. The lump has finally gone but it took ages to go away. Some cyst goes away on their own whilst others may need draining. Keep an eye on it. If it is still there after a month go back to your doctor but I'm sure its  nothing to worry about. To help drain it at home try putting a warm compress on it for a few minutes atleast twice a day. You can also use tea tree oil or apple cider vinegar to help drain it.  Hope this helps XOXO

  • I've had it's around 3 months now and it always gets bigger then smaller. I might ask for a drainage.

it might sound dumb but when I got the confirmation it was a cyst. However there's no head to the cyst if you get what I mean. Like the cysts is inside my armpit. I feel like this is making no sense.  Sorry.

The cysts you had did they have like a head. When I mean a head it's like a white spot where drainage could be done

  • I totally understand. I think it depends on the type of cyst and the cause. Mine turned out to be a sebaceous cyst. It felt hard to touch and it  had scar tissue over the area.  I don't recall it having a head but I had an ultrasound and they ruled out anything sinister. Did you have an ultra sound when yours was diagnosed please?  I don't think all cyst have heads.

The main thing is to monitor to it for a month or so if there's no improvement go back to your Gp so they look into this further.

In the mean time try not to worry. Most cysts and lumps are benign. You are going to be OK xx

  • Yes I had 2 ultrasounds. 1 was done by my gastro team that was able to book me in as I voiced my worries and another one was done on behalf of my GP as she doesn't get any records from the other hopital. To be honest I shouldn't of gone to the Sexojd ultrasound because I had one and I felt like I was wasting their time but I was shocked with the outcomes.

First ultrasound she said she saw nothing. She made another doctor come in and do it and she found nothing too. And 1 week past by and I got a call to come in for an ultrasound and I did and she said it looks like it's a cysts with fluid.

so right not I'm kinda confused. Why did the other ultrasound not see anything. I know for a fact the lump didn't change at all in that week.

but because the lump or the 'cyst' is bigger now and a little painful when pressed on im going to ring my GP tomorrow morning to get a on the phone consultation and then take it from there.

just really worried and can't get myself to not stress.

  • I think you are doing the right thing by ringing the Gp. Hopefully they will be able to put your mind at ease. Please let us know how you get on.  I know it's not easy at all. Sending you lots of love x
