So many tests, so little info

Hi, Mum (70yo, lifelong smoker, previous treatment for cancer, has had lung nodules being observed for 2+ years) has been recalled to the local respiratory team after they observed changes to her ongoing CT scans. They've requested PET scan, and so far lung function test but as yet given zero information as to what the changes are.

Of course we're expecting the worst - any changes on the CT scans are Bad, PET scan request suggests they do think it's cancer which is Bad, lung function test suggests that they're checking to see if she can cope after removing some of her lunch which is good but also Bad.

Are we jumping the gun too much? Unhelpful but well-meaning friend keeps saying it's probably nothing - but in all likelihood it is actually definitely Something, right?

  • Hi StrongerthanIthought.

I'm sorry about the changes that have been found on your mum's scans. As you're finding out, our thoughts tend to sprial in situations like these but fingers crossed the results of the tests they've requested will bring good news when the time comes.

Mnay of our members have been in similar situations so will understand what you're going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

In the meantime, we're thinking of you and hope it won't be long until you find out more.

    Kind regards,
