Hi, first time I am posting and hoping I can just get some idea from anyone that has experienced this. I'm 35 years old and a mother to 3 children. Have always had irregular cycles. Had my last smear test in dec 2019 and was all clear. Last period was in July 2020. Spoke to Gp in aug in regards to irregular periods, did blood tests and everything normal. Fast forward to Jan 2021 and had blood streaked discharge. Thought Hallelujah, iv started my period. But that blood streaked discharge, pink discharge and sometimes brownie discharged continued for 4 days only when I wiped, nothing on my pad and then stopped. Then restarted a few days, stopped after 6 days and then restarted. After 4 episodes of this on and off bleed which has now totalled for 5 weeks, have now started bleeding which is coming through on my pad. 
Spoke to my gp who had given me an app on Wednesday for a cervical examination. Asked if it could be peri menopause but she said my bloods from aug don't indicate that.
I'm so confused. Other than an increase in discharge,feeling tired and sometimes light headed - there's been no other issues prior to this. 
Could it be possible that because I haven't had a period for so long, my body has slowly released this period? Or does that sound really stupid? GP said she doesn't think it's cervical cancer as I haven't bled after sex..
