Lump benign but recalled to breast clinic

I had a 10mm nodule found on a ct scan for something else. I had a mammogram and ultrasound and I was told that it was almost certainly a fibroadenoma. They did a biopsy just to triple check but I was told I would be discharged with no need to follow up if all was ok with the biopsy.
I got a call from hospital yesterday to say the tumour was benign, which I was obviously hugely relieved about, but then the receptionist said that the surgeon wants to see me in clinic to discuss my results. I'm really confused because I was told I would be discharged if it were benign and it is!

Does anyone have any idea why it could be? I've got an appointment on Thursday but this has been going on since January and it's a constant worry.

  • Hello TeddyBear80,

It's encouraging to hear that the nurse has said that the tumour is benign, but your doctor may want to discuss in more detail so try not to worry.

I hope it goes ok on Thursday and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

I am in the same position with my results (good news) but still going to be seen again. I just wondered how you got on when you back in? Was everything ok?

  • Hi, I hope you're ok as the waiting for me is the worst part. I ended up having a lumpectomy. When I saw the surgeon, he said it's a bit like biting into an apple. Because my lump was fairly small, the didn't get lots of cells for the lab to test. He said the cells that they did get were benign but they don't know what was happening on the inside or round the opposite side. They concluded that the only way they could be certain it was nothing to worry abouts to remove the whole thing. I got my results and all was fine. It was a fibroadenoma, as they suspected but I guess it's better to be safe with such things. Good luck! Just to add I had no pain after the procedure at all and I have a very tiny scar!
