HI,

yesterday I went for my cervical smear. It has been 3 years since my last smear which had a negative result. When I went yesterday I mentioned for the last six months approx I had been bleeding after sex and in between periods.

When I had the smear (which made me bleed quite a bit) she commented that my cervix bled as soon as it was even touched and then my cervix bled during the smear. She advised me to speak to my gp about it ASAP so I'm home now from my appointment. The doctor noticed what she said is probably cervical ectropion and said I would need an ultra sound and colopscopy so has referred me for both. However she said I didn't meet the criteria for the 2 week colopscopy referral as my last smear was negative so I didn't fall in that bracket? I am really worried now and the fact I could be waiting for this for even longer is not helping the anxiety. Just wanted some reassurance that a Normal referral is appropriate and I should be ok as my last smear was 3 years ago?
