Awaiting results..

Hi everyone!

Firstly I hope everyone has been keeping safe and well recently. Such a difficult time for lots of people so sending lots of love.

At the start of January, my mum noticed a weird-looking mole on my back. Unfortunately, it was in a position that I can't really see so I didn't have a clue how long it had been there or if it had changed shape/colour etc. I got in touch with my GP who quickly referred me to a dermatologist to have it looked at. My first appointment was on 15th Feb where the dermatologist confirmed it was atypical and had me back today (25th Feb) for an excision biopsy.

The doctor asked if I'd had an appointment arranged to have the results, which I hadn't, but then didn't say anything else about how I'd go about getting them. She said it could take up to 4 weeks but I'm feeling pretty nervous about the wait and not knowing when/how I'll know. What was everyone else's experience like in getting their results back? Do they do it over the phone if everything comes back fine? Or would they want me to come back in to see them again?

Any help or words appreciated!

  • My other half had his melanoma results via face to face appointment but he also had to have surgery discussed as his wasn't excised at the time of biopsy. I think it's typical to be face to face for results either way but there are a few accounts on here of telephone appointments due to pandemic. Glad your mum found it and, though, I hope it was benign if it was not and it has been caught early you've already had the appropriate treatment.  My OH is now classed as being in remission thankfully, fingers crossed for you that you get reassuring results and it doesn't take too long xx

  • Hi there!

Thank you so much for your reply. Ah I get you! Yeah me too. I live by myself on the other side of the country so definitely would've been none the wiser unless I was at home. Ah, I'm so glad!! Thank you so much for the reassuring words and hope you and your partner are doing well! Xx

  • Sorry for the broken sentences. Failed to edit it as my children are harassing me instead of sleeping.
