Is it ovarian cancer?

Hi all:) I'm a young mum who is turning 21 this month and looking for advice to help reassure me really.

I recently had bleeding during and after intercourse, this was completely not normal, and then started getting pains one side of my pelvic which then I rang my gp.

I had a appointment with a nurse and explained how the pain has been going on and off onto both sides of pelvis and how my back hurts. I also explained how my stomach has swollen, well it constantly looks/feels like I'm bloated or swollen, she then examined me and nothing was worrying to her so she tested my urine for infection. This has high white cells, protein and bit of blood, so she sent it for testing and that came back as no infection so I've had bloods and waiting for a ultrasound now.
I can't get out my head about the fact it could be cancer as my Nan died in 2019 of cancer which started in her ovaries, so every time I get a new pain I'm panicking, recently been put on codein as my back and pelvic pain has been bad and now I'm getting really achy legs all the time?
so wondering if anyone else has had symptoms like this or if anyone can help me try understand, I can't stop worrying when I have my husband and two kids to think about:( and I know it's uncommon for this with my age but it does happen doesn't it?

  • Hello Mummy2018

I'm sorry to hear about the health concerns that you're dealing with at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and I think most of our members here will know how difficult this period of waiting for tests and results can be.

It's good to hear that you've been to see your GP who has got the ball rolling with investigations and hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your ultrasound.

It can sometimes help to talk things through and I wonder if you might find it beneficial to chat with one of our nurses. I'm sure they would be happy to try and offer some support and reassurance. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
