Awaiting mole biopsy results

Hi I had two moles grow after I burnt in the sun in august 2018, one of them grew and the other stayed at 1mm they removed the bigger one january2020 , and I had a phone call 6 weeks later to say everything was fine. However the one they left there grew from 1mm to 6mm from jan2020 to jan2021 I was referred within 2 weeks had a biopsy 28th jan to remove it that day, then I had a letter a week later to say I had an appointment 4 weeks away, which is 2nd March next Tuesday,  should I be worried I'm now having a face to face appointment? Especially during lock down ? My mind is running wild as this is not how I was dealt with before , thanks

  • Hi Lu,

I have replied to your comment on mildblue's post but can I just add that you can't infer anything from the fact you are being called back for a face to face appointment. One possibility is that your mole came back as dysplastic (atypical) - these are moles that look dodgy but are benign. However, their cells are starting to change & if left in situ, they can become cancerous. Even if this second one is benign, the fact you have already had one benign mole removed recently may mean they want to look at any other moles you have to ensure they are all OK. If the second one is dysplastic, there is more chance of another mole turning dysplastic in the future so they tend to monitor patients for a year.

I hope that turns out to be the case & that all goes well next week. Please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi Angie ,

Thank you for your reply , I needed some reassurance , I'm hoping this is the case and they just want to check my other ones , I just wasn't called back before so it's made me a bit anxious

il let you know my result Tuesday

  • Hi Lu,

I was just wondering how your biopsy results went? I have a similar sounding mole.

    Many thanks
