CT scan following an Endoscopy

Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help shed some light. I'm worried as my mum has been requested for a CT scan following an endoscopy. It's been three weeks since the endoscopy and no communication from the hospital until now about a CT scan. When questioned why is the CT needed they had said that the gastro consultant has reqested it following the endoscopy. I assume this is because they want to further investigate? But why havent they spoken to my mum directly about this prior to booking her a CT? Many thanks.

  • Hi ALH,

I'd try not to worry to much. I would of thought if it was something of real concern she would of been in sooner or you would of heard something sooner. I had my endoscopy exam on a Thursday and had a call the next day about attending a CT the follow day on a Saturday. Obviously different hospitals have different wait times but I'd of thought that CT would of been booked a lot sooner, so fingers crossed for your mum and try not to think the worst (easier said than done).

  • Thank you for replying Nith. This has helped me feel a little more settled. I think us humans are programmed to think the worse sometimes aren't we? Thanks again. Abbey

  • I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy on Tuesday and having a CT tomorrow.

Of course, I have no idea what the issue with your mum is. It could be they found something that the endoscopy couldn't identify, but it could just as easily be the endoscopy showed absolutely nothing so they are now using a CT scan to check other parts of the body.

That's effectively what's happened to me anyway. Both my checks were fine so the CT is to check for other potential causes.
