Waiting for colonoscopy

Hi all,

I'm currently on the two week pathway for a colonoscopy and so anxioys about the outcome.

I bought a FIT test privately online, not because I had any particular symptoms, though I am very regular (more than once per day) sometimes undigested food and mucus in my stools, though not always. I thought that as a 45 year old male it might be good to get checked.

the FIT test result came back 5 days ago as 92 micrograms/100g with a recommendation to see my GP urgently. My GP couldn't use this FIT test result as it was private so organised their own on Monday, the results of this dame back on Thursday. No numbers on the NHS result, it simply came back as positive so they have made an urgent referral.

Added to this, last weekend I got stomach cramps after a big meal, felt quite bloated, this continued across the weekend and when the private results dame through on Monday the pain was no better. For the rest of this week the pain has continued

- trapped wind, what feels like a stitch on lower right abdomen

- Difficulty peeing, not painful but harder to push

- lower back pain

Putting all of this together I am now very nervously waiting for the colonoscopy.

I am trying to look at it rationally but hot proving easy and i hoped that by writing it down like this I might be able to make some sense of it all

  • Hi sterbo,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I know the waiting and uncertainty is never easy, but it's good to hear you are in the process of getting this checked out.

I hope that writing it down has helped a little, and hopefully you'll receive further replies from others on the forum soon.

Hopefully you'll get your appointment soon - in the meantime try to keep busy if you can to help keep your mind off things as much as possible.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
