Waiting....

I am currently waiting for my first smear, it's booked in for 10th March. It's a year late as I'm 27 this year, mainly my own fault but I also struggled to get an appointment due to Covid. When I explained my symptoms to the doctor, she didn't seem all too worried. She booked my smear and swabs to be on the safe side. She said we'd see what results they bought back and then move forward from there.

My periods have always been a bit irregular due to being on the implant. I think a noticed a month or two ago, my periods seemed to be a little heavier and we're lasting a few days longer. I had my period as normal at the start of this month, it ended and then I started bleeding again 4 days later which lasted a week. I've stopped bleeding now. I'd class it as spotting as it was never enough to wear a pad or anything. I've also noticed I have awful belly ache the day after having sex. It lasts most of the day and fades off in the evening. Sometimes a faint dull ache in my groin. I also have a dull ache in my lower back most mornings when I wake up but that fades after an hour or so too.

I don't have any unusual discharge, no pain during sex and no bleeding during or after sex. I've only had this irregular bleeding once. I'm also on a waiting list to have my implant taken out.

I don't really know what the point of this post is. Maybe someone's had the same and hasn't been diagnosed with cancer? I had the HPV vaccine when I was at secondary school so I'm hoping this goes in my favour too

I'm not too worried, but then I am at the same time. It comes on in waves. I have days where I am not worried at all and days where I cry because I'm so scared.

I have two beautiful girls 5&9 and I'm just worried about our future

  • Hi S94PHH,

I noticed you haven't yet received a reply to your post so I just wanted to send a reply as this will boost your post and hopefully you'll get more replies soon.

The main thing is you're in the process of getting this checked out and it's good to hear you have an appointment coming up - hopefully you'll get some answers before too long.

I know how difficult the waiting is, and the uncertainty that comes with it can provide a mix of emotions so I can understand the ups and downs you must be going through.

I hope you find out more soon. Wishing you all the best,

  • I haven't been on the implant so have no frame of reference for what's normal although there are lots of things which aren't cancer that can cause irregular bleeding. I hope they get to the bottom of it soon and you're okay. I'm overdue my smear because of Covid too. Not my first one though. I've had a few.

I wouldn't research too much until you get some test results. Symptom cross over is so common between conditions it's really easy to read a lot into them before you get real information about what's going on. I've got two kids too. I know the fear.

  • I'm having the exact same symptoms. Had an ultrasound & trans vaginal scan. The lady doing the scan think it's fibroids but because I've gone private I've also had a biopsy. Try not to worry, the dr said my symptoms are more common than you'd know & the cause could be several things. Since I've had these symptoms I've discussed with several friends to find they've either experienced or know someone who has been through the same. My last period was severely heavy to the point I felt faint & lasted 9 days.
