Sarcoma diagnosis

My husband has been ill for the last 6 months. He had a lump at the beginning of 2020 on his back, that has grown quite a lot. We unfortunately only flagged it to the dr in November 2020, he had an urgent referral ultra scan, that revealed abnormalities and was referred to sarcoma unit, which was a huge jump without having mri etc. Anyway, since then the pain is huge, he doesn't sleep, he has intermittent blood in stools (a huge amount too) and he eventually had a MRI scan a week ago. We still haven't had results. I'd like to know if anyone has had bad results after that amount of time? It was a contrast dye one, does that mean there is a suspicion for tumours? I kind of thought that if it was bad you'd know sooner! Is it just a case of the scans being looked at in date order or not? It's driving is insane! When we got the sarcoma letter in November we went through all the motions, and we are still in the dark now. Our Google searches are sending us over the edge. I respect that it's a silly thing to do, but sitting eith no answers, it's human nature to search. Xx

  • Hello Vbolt and welcome to Cancer Chat,

Of course it is human nature to search and I can understand why you wanted to do that as you are waiting with no answers. But you are right, Google searches often make us worry even more so try not to take much notice of what they tell you or it might make you even more anxious.

It's good that your husband eventually had that MRI a week ago. According to our information page on the MRI scan which you can read here, it usually takes 1-2 weeks to get the results of an MRI scan. Perhaps to be sure, you could ask your doctor or nurse how long it will take to get them and if you haven’t heard anything after a couple of weeks, you could contact the doctor who arranged the test.

I hope you get some definite answers soon as the wait must be really difficult to bear.

    Best wishes,
