urgent breast scan at 27

I wrote about a month ago about finding a lump in my right breast. I phoned the doctor after people here suggested i speak to someone and they said as i had only just found it to book an appointment in a month and they would check it out if it was still there. at the time they said they didnt feel too worried and it sounded like a lump due to hormones and it should go away.

so the lump is still on my breast. it is sometimes quite small but can also swell and is quite noticable. I had my appointment today expecting the doctor to confirm it is nothing to be worried about.

She has now booked me in for an urgent review within two weeks and scan and mentioned the C word. Obviously i completley panicked. she said at my age it could just be fibroadenoma but said that my breast feels 'glandular' what ever that means, so wants to get it checked out for anything suspicious.

I am so scared. I am trying to remind myself it might be nothing but I am just so nervous.

Sorry to hear how anxious you are feeling, Doctors and nurses often use words that they understand and feeling comfortable saying forgetting that we are not around these words daily so don't understand what they mean.

As much as we like our breasts, we do get worried when something feels weird and of course they go through many changes over the years, due to hormones, age and monthly cycles.

The breast Clinic to have a great way of dealing with referrals as they make sure your not waiting longer than two weeks, I know with the restrictions in place this could mean that they are needing to make people wait longer than like, but they really do put you at ease when you are there, you generally go into an office with a consultant who will feel both breasts, and then get taken to another room to have a mammogram, although because of your age I am not sure if they will do a mammogram on you as it is harder to read them on younger people as their breasts are a lot denser. if they do a mammogram the results get sent straight to the consultant to look at, then you go into another room for an ultrasound, again this is done all in the same breast care unit and you see an all female team (at the breast clinic I go to even husbands and boyfriends aren't allowed past a certain point) Throughout the appointment you are told what is going on, in the ultrasound it is a doctor in there with a nurse, so everything can be done there and then, there is no nurse doing it and then saying oh just have to pop off and get a doctor. So a majority of the time before you leave your appointment you would have seen everyone that you need to see and come away with answers.

I hope this has helped, and fingers crossed for your appointment. and know your not the only one that is anxious and worried about an upcoming appointment we all go through these feelings, unfortunately it is a natural response.
