Faint brown line on big toe and mole on sole of foot.

I'm of British Asian heritage and never thought the mole which appeared a year a so ago would be anything. Last week I noticed it had changed shape and looks bigger than the last time 4mm. I've mentioned this last week to my Gp who has arranged for a dermatology appointment at the hospital. I didn't think much of it until I started reading up about a faint line on my left toe and and the mole on my foot. My hubby thinks I shouldn't work my self up with Dr Google but have a horrible feeling it could be acral lentiginous melanoma. Both my parents are deceased quite some time ago and neither they or relations I know of had skin cancer. I've never been on a sunbed getting tans but have sunbathed at the beach on lovely holidays in the past.
I just wanted to offload on a safe forum. I'm counting down the days till my appointment next week Friday.

  • Hi ,

sorry I do not know allot about skin cancer except my mum had a mole removed from her back 20 years ago and made a full recovery.I have bowel cancer so I know what a worrying time this is for you .I would say stay away from the internet .I did the same convinced myself the cancer had gone to my lymph nodes and would sit up most of the night looking the same things up but wording it differently .Thecancer had not spread but I had convinced myself by reading posts .Please do not worry get plenty of sleep and rest .Good luck for next Friday I will be thinking of you and keep us posted x

  • Thank you so much for your kind words. I have spent a few nights once the kids are sleeping going over the same pics and info again and again. I'll try and get a few early nights sleep rather than the worry just eating at me. I will keep you posted with how next Friday plays out. X

  • Yes please do .I actually tell my friends the worrying is worse than having cancer .Get some CBT oil you can get from Holland and barrat but there is better oil out there it will help you to relax more and sleep .

I'll be thinking of you x

  • Hi,

I can understand your worry but please step away from Dr Google - the information isn't kept up to date & it just scares you silly.

It would be very rare for this type of melanoma to appear in two different places at the same time - if it occurs it's usually on the sole of the foot or under the nail, so hopefully it's not melanoma. Also, this type of melanoma is quite rare (it accounts for only 5% of melanoma diagnoses).

I can't give you anymore information that will help at the moment I'm afraid, only your dermatologist can do that next week. We are here for you to offload on though so try & be kind to yourself. Try and distract yourself whilst waiting for your appointment otherwise your stress levels will soar. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi Angie, Thank you for your message about this type of cancer being rare. I've taken a few days away from the iPad and have been going to bed earlier. I did get quite worked up emotionallly on Saturday and had a good cry. I just needed that cry out of my system in order to feel better.
Not long to go now with my appointment on Friday yet it feels the days leading up to it are just dragging out. X

  • Hi Angie and Just1, Keeping you in the loop of how today week. I saw the dermatologist today and she didn't seem worried about the brown line on my toe. She took interest in the mole but didn't say it's cancerous. She suggested it's best to get it removed so I'm now in the process of waiting for a surgery date. I guess they'll test the mole upon removal for nasties. Thanks for being with me on my journey and wish you all the best. X

  • Hi,

It's good to hear that your nail is fine & that you are having the mole removed to be on the safe side. Hopefully the results will come back clear & you can put the worry behind you. Please let us know how you get on with the results x
