Worried 40 year old

Hi I found a lump on my brest on Saturday...its around 1 1/2 cm .I had a appointment with my GP on Monday who referred me us urgent.  I found another lump yesterday. . I allready have my appointment through which has come quick . I've had to take a few days of work as I'm worried sick & can't stop thinking the worst.  I'm mentally drained.. my question to anyone is if the lumps big does that mean the worse the cancer is & if there's 2 lumps does that mean it's a higher risk of being the worst case scenario..I know im jumping the gun as I've not had mammogram or biopsy yet bit my heads bursting with all these questions . Im trying to prepare myself for the worst bit hoping for the best . Xx

  • Hi [@Sabrina79]‍

It is very easy to jump to all the bad conclusions especially as you are waiting around for your appointment and at this stage no nurse or Doctor can speculate on what the outcome will be, but there is so many things it could be at this stage and a lot of them not as horrendous as you might think, because of your age this is possibly going to be your first mammogram? which if you look on the bright side an early mammogram at this age means when you are called to have future ones they already have a set of images on file to notice any changes. I think most women would say that when they found a lump their gut reaction was oh god it's cancer, I think that is possible quite a normal reaction, then the more you worry about it the more you believe it's going to be true.

But with things like Fibroadenomas and cysts and possibly all manner of other things it could be, other than cancer it really is a case of wait and see and hope for the best.

My first mammogram I had two lumps, albeit one of them I didn't know about, the cyst was drained and the fibroadenoma that was found was about 1cm I think, and it was just pure coincidence that I had two in the same breast the were not related to one another or one caused the other kind of thing.

Please let us know how you get on though and if you want to chat please feel free to message me.
