Concerned

Hi,

So today I eventually got an appointment with my GP for a lump in my breast. I waited 2 weeks before I phoned them and then another 2 weeks for a face to face app.
I now feel totally in limbo. Because of my age (I'm only 26) the GP said she wasn't that worried but could feel the lump. If it's still there in 4 weeks and still tender I've to phone back.
I just feel like I'm playing a waiting game...has anyone else had this kind of experience? Especially if you were younger going.
I'm not even sure why I'm posting this to be honest because I'm not overly worried it's something serious  but think I'm just looking for someone's who's been in the same position to say it's okay and the 4 week wait to see what happens isn't as bad as I'm making it in my head x

  • From your post what I can gather is rather than referring you they want to see you at docs 4 weeks time if no improvement?

I'm 25, I had a rash on mine, went to GP and she checked them and found a lump, I've had a 2 week referral. All lumps should be checked at the clinic as boobs aren't see through.. I'd phone back and ask for a referral or explaination as to why they haven't .

    good luck x

  • Hi

sorry to hear this. I'm similar to you but a little further along. I contacted my GP after the lump had been there for a month. They told me that most lumps are nothing and that I should wait a further 2 weeks.

The day before my appointment a large rash began to spread over my chest. I had my appointment and GP referred me to hospital (mostly for the rash) and I'm now waiting for ultrasound on lump.

im 22 and everyone says "oh you're young there's nothing to worry about" and that really doesn't help because there still is a lump to worry about completely understand how you feel x

  • Hi

I've got a slightly different issue to you but have found myself with the same problem in that the doctors are making me wait a while. I have two enlarged lymph nodes in my neck which one has been there for 4 years and the most recent just over a year which have been growing very slowly in size. I finally called the docs about them as I've started to get pain in them when I drink alcohol, however similar to you after being seen I got told to wait 6 weeks and if they're still there I have to book in for blood tests. It's frustrating when the lumps have been there for a long time already I'm not sure why there's such a long wait, I'm hoping it's just a sign they're confident it isn't anything sinister which could be the same for you. Though I do think as much as their intentions are good, doctors can sometimes be dismissive when we're on the younger side (I'm 25 yo female), I didn't get asked any questions when I went in either not even around the pain drinking alcohol which is the whole reason I contacted them, they just felt the lumps and confirmed they were lymph nodes and that was it.

Hopefully the wait for both of us goes quickly and it all goes well for you x

  • Yeah that's it - to wait another 4 weeks to see if there's improvement then they'll refer me. I might phone them towards the end of next week. With everything going on in the world right now it's so hard to speak to anyone at my surgery. Today I was legit in and out in 3 minutes. You could tell they were not wanting people in the doctors as much as they could help which I totally understand.
    thank you x

  • Yeah it's the oh you're young part I really hate. Don't get me wrong I'm glad that I'm young and it's less cause for concern but just now doesn't feel like it. Good luck with your ultrasound x

  • This is so true. Hopefully it goes quick x

  • From how the doctor mentioned it to me, you have to fit a criteria when young to be referred. My appointment is Wednesday so hopefully I'll find out then, but you need to ask again if you are worried xx

  • have a telephone consultation today, but am extremely worried. I have had severe dyskarpsos in 2008 and also abnormal cells burnt away since then. I had a smear September and it was fine.

However i have noticed a ledge like lump on my cervix ,next to my coil last weekend. I have a bit of watery discharge, occasionally with bits of white. I have also noticed a ball like growth on the top of vaginal wall near opening which seems to be visible when take a look. It's not painful to touch as well as the one on cervix. However I have been experiencing fever back pain and thought it was my posture. The back pain has worse over last few weeks and only noticed the lumps last weekend.
