Pancreatic cancer

Hi

My partner was diagnosed with IBS nearly two years ago he had a colonoscopy, various blood test and saw the doctor on numourous occassions. He was told by his doctor not to contact him about the same condition again this was 1 year ago he has been suffering excruiciating pain he says feels like a pulling from his shoulder right through his right side of the body, also itchy skin, which he told the doctor in his last visit. She just gave him an emouliant and sent him away and told him to visit the mental health link. Since then he seems to be getting gradually worse the tablets he have been given to reduce the pain do not seem to be doing anything, he is barely sleeping at night and is in constant pain, his stomach also seems constantly distended. He had had enough and I got him to ring the surgery again, he got to speak to the doctor but not to see her and she got him to go for more blood tests. As yet we have not heard from the doctor concerning the results of these blood tests or which ones he had but after seeing an advert about signs of pancreatic cancer, I looked up the details on the NHS website and am concerned that he may now have this condition, which may or not be a result of a bowel blockage. I have not metioned my concerns to him as he is worried enough as it is but would like to know what I should do about them?

  • Hello Steeley61 and welcome to our forum,

It's good that he got to speak to the doctor again as things were getting so much worse for him and I am glad that the doctor has ordered some more blood tests. I hope you will get the results very soon and that he gets all the investigations he needs and a definite diagnosis. I can understand why you are worried and perhaps this is something you could talk to a doctor about and ask whether this is a possible explanation for his symptoms or if they think this is highly unlikely? Your doctor will be able to reassure you hopefully and answer questions you may have on this. Hopefully you will get a clearer picture of what is going on after your partner has had all the necessary tests.

We're keeping everything crossed for you and hope that you get some definite answers soon.

    Best wishes,
