Awaiting PET scans for mass found on thymus gland

Hi,

new to this but came across these chats when I was Googling.
I had a PET scan last week on Thursday and was wondering if anyone knows roughly how long it takes for results to be reported back?
I know the consultant who referred me will have had the results with 24/48 hours and have tried to contact her but to no avail.
in anyone's experience the longer results come back is that a good or bad thing?
I have been diagnosed with MS in October and now due to a droppy eyelid looks like I have MG too. CR scan picked up on a soft tissue mass on my thymus gland and was referred to lung MDT and urgent PET scan.
many information or experiences people have of PET scans would be greatly appreciated. It's all I think about and can't help but to think it's bad news.
many thanks!

  • Hello Maeve89

I'm sorry to hear about all that you're dealing with at the moment. It's understandable that you're anxious about the results of the PET scan.

The length of time it can take for results to be received by the Consultant can vary for a number of reasons and sometimes if the finding needs to be discussed at an MDT meeting then it can mean that it takes a little longer before the patient hears anything. It can be really easy to read too much into how long it takes to hear any news. Try to take things a day at a time and not think too far ahead.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long to hear from the COnsultant and that they're able to give you some answers and reassurance.

    Best wishes,
