Endoscopy and colonoscopy and ct scan booked in?

Hi, I have an under active thryroid, during regular blood tests my gp said I have low b12 and a level of 228 calprotectin from stool sample I think. He send me on an urgent referral for endoscopy. However, this was rejected by hospital via a letter stating there wasn't any evidence pointing to cancer and that a consultant will call to discuss.

Got that call today, I explained weight loss of 7lbs, sore tongue with ulcers, headaches, lack of appitite, sore stomach, some loose stools and constipation, before all this I never had pain in stomach or appitite problems, they might have come from anxiety over all this.

in any case, dr has said I will need b12 injections which I agree with. I'm more concerned with him wanting me to have both endoscopy and colonoscopy and ct scan, is it normal to book ct scan before even having any tests?

it's made me worried sick!

Anyone know if it's normal?

  • Hello Karl86

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about what may be causing these symptoms.

Consultants can request many different types of investigations and it sounds as if the Dr that you spoke to is being thorough in trying to get an overall picture of what's happening for you at the moment.

Try not to read too much into what tests have been requested and at what stage in the process. It can help to keep busy and not think too far ahead into the future.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for your scopes and scans and the results will bring some answers and reassurance for you.

    Best wishes,

  • The mouth ulcers, low B12 and bowel issues would immediately make me think Coeliac rather than bowel cancer (I'm not a doctor but I do work in this field)

Hopefully the tests will be able to put your mind at rest soon

  • I think coeliac was ruled out via a blood test
