Colorectal / stomach cancer worries

Hi everyone. I am 24 years old and have been having issues for about 3 months now (although looking back it definitely could've been longer).
My main issues are bloating, incessant stomach gurgling, gas (burping and farting a ridiculous amount) a lump in throat feeling and having to clear my throat all the time especially after eating due to mucus. Have had looser stools/diarrhoea on and off with mucus in stool but never pain with it. Have had pain under the ribs in stomach area though occasionally. My GP said "probably IBS and reflux" and gave me Omeprazole but it hasn't done anything.

I'm super scared that it's colorectal cancer or stomach cancer. My GP will not refer me for a colonoscopy because so far I've had no rectal bleeding. I've read a lot of stories from people my age who had similar symptoms and were very sick (stage 3-4 when diagnosed) so I am absolutely panicking. To make matters worse they know I have a family history of it (grandfather and possibly grandmother) so I'm worried it could be genetic.

They're doing some stool samples but that's kind of the limit to their investigations.

Any advice would be great. Just really quite anxious

  • Hi I am currently awaiting my results to find out if I have colon cancer.

After finding I was anaemic the first test that my doctor ordered was for a stool sample. When it showed blood was present (I couldn't see any so stupidly thought I was fine) I was urgently referred for a colonoscopy.

In my opinion you are on the right track with the stool samples. If it comes back as clear maybe then you can ask for a sceond opinion due to the family history.

  • Hi There,

I am new to the forum. I have been having the same issues. Gp did two fit screenings and has there was no blood put it down to IBS.

Fast forward 6 months later, I felt has I wasn't fully emptying my bowels, again GP said IBS and gave me Laxido. I felt as though something was stopping me having a full bowel movement so, last Tuesday I got to see my GP and asked them to check for internal piles. They found a small mass outside my bowel wall (explains the no blood in stools). I had my first appointment with a lovely colorectal nurse today and a phone call this afternoon for A CT scan next week, waiting for a colonscopy.

I think you should request an internal examination to ease your worries.

Hope all goes well for you

  • Hi fayella, are you any better now? Your symptoms sound the same as mine.
