Doctor can’t feel breast lump

Hello, iv been stalking this forum for a little while now and decided to create my own post for some advise.

Iv had burning pain in the left side of my left breast for about 8 weeks. That side is also swollen and tender. I then found a swollen area in my breast which felt harder then normal breast tissue about the size of a pea. I can feel it only in certain positions and not lying down. My nipple has also started to change shape and become darker then the other one and more lumpy? I had been putting off going to the doctor as I was worried about being over dramatic and I find the whole "it's just your hormones" excuse really frustrating. Any way bit the bullet as I have been really worried and spoke to gp on the phone very reassuring and helpful and booked me in with a junior doc and was told everything would be re checked by normal doc.

Went today and have just been told it's my hormones and if I still have issues in 4 weeks to go back.... she couldn't feel the area I was worried about but said my breast did look swollen on that side... but as I'm 28 and no history she's not worried at all... to just take paracetamol and get on with it pretty much.

Did any one have a "lump" the doctor couldn't feel? Did it get better or did you get a referral to the breast clinic?  I feel a bit crazy because I'm sure I can feel the difference in my breast and this "lump" but the doctor couldn't feel it.

feeling very worried still and puts me off going back in 4 weeks if I still have issues :(

  • Hi Lauren,

I noticed you haven't had a reply yet so I just wanted to welcome you to the forum and let you know your post has been seen.

I'm sorry your appointment with the doctor has left you feeling worried but please go back if your issues continue as they are the only ones who can give you the answers and peace of mind you're seeking.

If there is more than one doctor at your surgery maybe you could try getting a second opinion? To find out more just click here.

Many of our members have had to be persistent and push for referrals/further tests so don't give up. You know your body better than anyone.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Lauren,

I have the exact same symptoms as you and just have a gut feeling something isn't right.

Did you have anymore test and or get results?

  • Hi Lauren,

I understand this post is from February and wondered how you got on?
I am like yourself having exact same symptoms (burning breast pain and have found a pea size lump) which disappears sometimes.

I have been seen and checked over by doctor and had the same as you but they have referred me to a breast clinic.

You are well within your right to not feel "crazy" and a problem to get a second opinion or a mammogram to just check over.

After all, it's your health and you deserve to be checked over.

    xx
