Been referred breast cancer clinic

Hello everyone,

Im 30 years old I had recently found a lump in my left breast and went to my gp yesterday thinking she would tell me all is OK and to go home and stop worrying. However, that didn't happen and I got a phone call this morning from the breast clinic in Aintree.

I'm so worried about going, can someone explain what will happen and roughly how long I'll be in there for?!

Unfortunately my partner can't come with me due to work commitments so my dad will be taking me and don't want him to be stuck in the car for hours.

Thank you x

  • Hi there ..

Firstly remember 8.5 out of ten lumps are benign. And the younger you are the better odds to ... my first four call backs from mamorgrams over the years were fine.... and I'd panicked each time .... every where is different but on average you'll be seen by dr / nurse ... they will feel lump and chat about things ... then you probly will be given a mamograme... then you may have an ultrasound.... and maybe a they may take a sample for a biopsy ...

Please don't over worry as they send all lumps to be checked as they are really wanting to get the right diagnosis.... as a safe guard ... so fingers crossed for a good result ... let us know how you go ... four in my family have been through breast cancer now, and wer all still here ... treatments have come along way ...  Chrissie x

  • Hi,

Thank you for replying! I haven't been that worried for weeks but now I'm worrying just because I have been referred which I know is silly especially as you said most are benign.

My mum also had breast cancer at a young age but she is fully recovered now!

Do you know roughly how long I'll be in there for?

Thanks for your help and advice xx

  • Hi ..

The thing is my last one was 2017 ... now it's not just what's normal , it's covid now making everything different ... so you may be in quicker or it just may take longer ... but as a rough guide I went in the last time about 10ish and was out in Costa ( other coffees are available) with coffee by 12ish ...

So I'd say be prepaired and tell your dad to take a flask and a paper to read ... and pillow just in case... take your mobiles so you can keep in touch ... so I'm sorry I can't help more ... but the more tests they do, the better... to be sure ... so hold on in there, you can do this ... let us know how you go ... • Hi

I attended the same clinic in August and was there for around an hour. It was an evening appointment though and it did come through very quick.

I was able to take a friend who was not allowed in the actual clinic but was able to wait in a waiting area along the corridor.

I would phone up and ask about this.

    Good luck x

  • Thank you so much for your help xx

  • Thank you for your help, I'll try find the number to ring and clarify for me. They rang on a private number xx

  • You will be able to find the number easily.

I also received a letter before the appointment with information etc.

I was really really nervous and they helped to put me at ease. They did also say my friend could come in and see the doctor with me if I wanted but she could not wait in the actual clinic waiting room. I am not sure if things will have changed since though. X

  • Hi. I attended the breast cancer clinic last Monday. I was there for two hours and had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. The biopsy was done under local anesthetic and there was no pain at all. The ultrasound showed a mass of around 2cm which did not show up at all on the mammogram due to its position, almost between my breasts. They said it would not have shown up on my routine mammogram which was done about 2 years ago so that was a bit of a worry. Anyway, I'm back there again in 3 days and we shall see what transpires. It's hard not to worry but you have to be positive and hope for a happy outcome. Stay calm and take every day as it comes. Good luck!

  • Hi,

Thank for this! Yes I am trying to be as positive as I can be!!

Good luck with your results let us know how you get on xx

  • Hi

I am 56 yrs old found a small hard lump on left breast about 1inch away from the nipple area about three weeks ago. I thought it would go away on its own (ever the optimist) it didn't saw doc yesterday and had referral appointment through today.. for 3 weeks time ..  I know that it's likely to be fine, and I know its normal to worry what I can't deal with is feeling like I am in a daze.

I am usually very level headed and not usually dramatic at all but this has actually floored me

Hope all goes well for you
