Scaly irregular mole

Hi

Im looking for some advice / reassurance? Not sure! I have a mole of various colours which has gone sore and scaly and can weep a little. Went to the GP and was referred to dermatologist as they said they didn't like how it looked. Apt came through the day after and have been told he wants it to be excised for biopsy. Op on 1 March and I'm quite concerned as the process seems quite quick.

thanks for any help / advice

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you have this worry. Can I just say that the timeline of your experience so far is quite normal for an investigation into a dodgy looking mole. The dermatologist will want a biopsy as this is the only infallible way of determining if the mole is cancerous or not. It doesn't always mean that every biopsy comes back positive for melanoma - I have had 7 moles removed for biopsy over the years because the consultant wasn't sure & only 1 resulted in being melanoma.

I hope this helps. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi Angie

Thank you for your reply and reassurance. This certainly helps put my mind at ease a little. Thankfully I've always been blessed with good health so it's just a little nerve racking when something like this comes about.
