Complex Ovarian Cyst

Yesterday, just a week after a CT scan I was seen by  Gynae Oncology consultant and  a Macmillan nurse who  has been allocated to me. I was told  that I have a complex ovarian cyst measuring approx 7cm x 5cm.x7cm. . I have been referred for a total hysterectomy  at a hospital on the mainland ( I live on the Isle if Wight) and that it  would be done in 4 to 6 weeks

This seems quite extreme and I wonder if my age (71) has anything to do with it. Should I go ahead as it seems that they won't simply do a biopsy or remove the cyst or even just the affected ovary?  My only other alternative is to have it monitored by further CT scans at intervals

  • As I noticed this is your first post with us, I wanted to stop by and welcome you to Cancer Chat, Chrissy2712.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, and I hope that hearing others' stories and opinions here will help you decide whether you should go ahead with having a total hysterectomy.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that if in the meantime if you feel like speaking with someone medically trained might help, our team of nurses will be happy to take your call. They're available on this phone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Best wishes,
