Large Hard Lymph Node in Neck - High CRP

Hi there,

I am new to this site but was wondering if i could get some advice/support/more info.

I've had a bit of a crumby couple of months - one part great....I am almost 12 weeks pregnant, but the rest pants.

Two weeks before conceiving (early to mid Nov)  me and my family caught covid - at the time I put the following due to covid symptoms.  I had very itchy and irritated tonsils (although nothing visual) and the irritation alternated between left to right.  My right tonsil swelled a bit but has since gone down and pain/irritation mainly on left.  Roll on four weeks later, covid symptoms gone and throat irritation was getting worse and I had swollen lymph nodes in my neck (one in particular on left side of neck) was hard and unmoveable and quite big.  Drs thought tonsillitis so prescibed me amoxycillin for 10 days and this did nothing,  they then place me of Doxycycline for further 7 days another but stronger antibiotic and again this did nothing.   I later had a throat swab and a blood test and the they came back fine, however due to swelling in left side of my neck my gp ordered another set of blood tests.  Both blood tests were full blood count ones.   All results from second one came back last week.  GP has now confirmed i have high CRP markers and is referring me for an urgent ultrasound (date to be confirmed).  At present my throat isn't as irritated but left had side of my neck where lump is is starting to ache and the ache goes to the part of my left hand side of throat.

Sorry for the essay.

Naturally, I am quite scared.  I found out I was pregnany early December and was elated but this has put an dampener on things and now I am scared of something sinister, which will affect both me and my baby.  I am a mum of 1 already, my boy is 5½ and I'm 34.

Can anyone confirm if they have had something similar to my symptoms and confirm what it was you had.  I realise that even if your diagnoses had similar symptoms it may not be the same as what mine may be, but just looking for info.  What tests were carried out....did it take long etc.

  • Hi ️

I've just had a call from my doctor this morning advising my inflammation markers are slightly raised and she is referring me for an ultrasound on this very small (smaller than a pea) lump I have on my neck. I am past myself, so would be nice to be in touch with someone who is going through the same, if that's ok?!

Sorry I can't actually answer any of your questions

  • Hey there,

Sorry to hear you are going through the same, its really scary!

Today I have actually found a couple of hard lumps in my boob as well, however I am not freaking out about this just yet.  During last pregnancy I had a tennis ball sized lump called a Fibroadenoma which was caused by Pregnancy hormones.  I am hope its the same this time as opposed to anything else, but have made yet another Dr's appt this morning.

I can't tell you not to worry or get scared, its natural you are, I have good moments and bad moments when I kind of let the worry get out of control.  The only thing I will say is don't google, I am guilty of this but it really doesn't help.  You use it to seek reassurance that it might be something normal or nothing bad and when you don't find it, it makes you worry worse and most of the time unnessescarily.

Atleast in both our cases its all being looked into....something is being done.

The only thing I can say, is that if your markers are only slightly raised its most likely an infection and your dr is referring you as a precaution.  I, guilty as hell did a bit of "research" on CRP markers and it tends to quite a lot more than 'slightly elevated' if due to the Big C.  I didn't ask how high mine was stupidly when the dr explained but wish I had of done.

I have my fingers crossed for us both. :)

  • Sadly I have already googled it and come across loads of different explanations from being obese to cancer. I am trying to remember that worrying changes nothing. What will be will be. Hopefully all is well. Super glad you've got an appt though, definitely better to be checked. Please keep us informed :)
