Waiting on double biopsy results

hi all,

Feeling very anxious at the moment, had an FNA thyroid biopsy (right lobe) and core lymph node biopsy  (supraclavicular) done two days ago.

I have previously had the left lobe of my thyroid removed in 2017 due to a large 7cm multinodular growth that was benign when biopsied. My right lobe has a 3cm nodule which was the source of the current biopsy.

I have also got a lump in my groin which may or may not be linked to the enlarged lymph node in my neck that has just been biopsied.
I'm hopeful that the biopsies will both come back benign, the radiologist said they didn't look too suspicious but that they can never know for sure until they get the results back.
I'm eager to find out either way as the past few months have been quite worrying with my lymph nodes being swollen since October and no sign of acute or chronic infection.
The ENT consultant has mentioned that I may need further surgery to remove the right side of my thyroid which I wasnt that thrilled to hear but I'm just taking it a day at a time and trying to keep my mind occupied!

  • Hello Graciepops

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for the results of two different biopsies at the moment. It sounds like a difficult time for you and it understandable that you want to hear some news as soon as possible.

Although sometimes easier said than done, trying to take things a day at a time and keeping busy is a great coping strategy to get through this period of waiting. It can also sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wondered if you might find it helpful to talk to one of our nurses. I'm sure they'd be able to offer you some advice and support.

If you'd like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you don't have to wait too much longer and that the Consultant is able to give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
