Colonoscopy prognosis

I'm struggling to know what to think. My partner has been having trouble with his bowel movements for ages. 3 weeks ago I convinced him to phone the doctor and today he finally had a colonoscopy and a large 10cm growth was found in the very bottom part of the bowel (presumably anal canal and rectum) it is protruding on the outside. The doctor has not given any indication of prognosis but has taken biopsy samples to check for cancer and referred for CAT and MRI scans. Does anybody know if a growth/tumor like this can be non-cancerous? I just want to prepare myself for the likely outcome.

Any information or advice would be very gratefully received.

I had a polyp taken away it come bk clear I hop you get good news

I had a 6mm sessile polyp in the same place. Mine was not cancerous. I had gone private becuause of my age I was deemed too young to be referred. So had no choice. I had to have an MRI & was put back on the NHS & had it removed 2 weeks later.

Thank you for replying. I don't think this can be a polyp as it's huge and I'm worrying myself sick not knowing x

Oh well that's similar then, when you said 6mm I was thinking it was much smaller. That gives me hope thank you.
