Worried after dermoid cyst removal

Hiya, I'm a 20 year old woman and I’m really worried because I came back from having a dermoid cyst removed from my left ovary a month ago but all of a sudden just over a week ago got a letter from the hospital saying to come for blood tests ASAP and got a call yesterday to come back for a CT scan today.

I had an emergency surgery to have one removed from the right side, back in august and was told I only had a simple cyst on the left so they left it. Few weeks later I got a letter saying the one they cut out was benign and that was it.

Been having loads of pains all over and infections since and at the end of December I ended up going hospital from being in so much pain and had to have a surgery on my left ovary because they found it had a simple as well as dermoid cyst on it.

This time I’ve haven’t had a letter like last time come but instead one that literally said ‘can you come have blood tests done ASAP please’ and was called about a next day appointment for a ct scan.

I might be completely overreacting but I’m so worried. I’m still in a lot of pain so I’m glad I’m being checked but I’ve been given no information at all and it’s all happening so fast and it’s so sudden so I’m freaking out a bit.

My discharge letter said my ovaries are clear of cysts but I’ve got endometrial deposits on my POD and liver. I have no idea what that means and I didn’t even ask when I was leaving the hospital because I assumed I’d be fine like last time and that it’s the end of it now because I had both cysts cut out but now I’m worried as I'm still in pain and having all these tests done.

  • Hey, sorry you've been through so much and that your letters haven't been explained.

I'm a gynae nurse so can help abit with the terminology. Endometrial deposits are what happens when you have endometriosis, where cells that should be only in the lining of the womb are found in other areas. Its not life threatening but it is very painful.  The POD stands for pouch of Douglas and is the gap between the womb and wall of the abdomen, very common to get endometriosis there.

Try not to worry, easier said than done I know. I'm not sure about the blood test and CT but like you said its great that you are getting a thorough check. Write down some questions and ring them tomorrow so they can explain in more detail.

    Hope it all goes well.

    Take care, Steph x
