My mum has had a dull ache in her right side for months then last Wednesday she noticed she had significant blood in her urine. 111 suggested she had a uti, her GP suggested it could be the same but booked a face to face appointment this was 6 days into antibiotic treatment. She advised my mother after the consultation it could be cancer as the urine sample tested negative for infections. She has started the referral process for scans etc. No urine samples have been sent off to the labs, no blood tests have been done. Is this standard or should those things have been done before cancer was mentioned. The doctor said don't worry but easier said than done. What are other people's experiences? Please help.
