Worried my mum has lung cancer

Hello all,

I am writing in this forum as I would be keen to hear from anyone who has had similar rushed X-rays and everything has turned out to be ok, or in the unfortunate event not ok.

my mum was a smoker for 30 years she is 60, she gave up 10 years ago and 6 years ago was diagnosed with COPD - she manages this well but of course struggles with breath when doing anything to much.

for the last 5 weeks, she has had a cough that comes and goes and gets worse then goes.  In the last four weeks, she had been coughing up blood and we have been begging her to call the Dr, she hides most of this from us. On Friday she finally called the Dr behind our backs and he booked her for a lung X-ray the same day, the x ray man told her they can see something at the bottom of her lunch and her doctor called her the same day referring her for an urgent CT scan.

of course I've been on google and am assuming the worst, she is eating normal and doing everything normal however she has this cough and with the blood it's awful to think.

My brother is registered disabled and we need our mum, she is our rock and we love her very much.

I can't sleep at night thinking about the CT scan and when this will be, I'm reaching out to see if anyone has been in s asimaiale position and can prepare us for what might be.

  • Welcome to the forum Paige although I'm sorry to read what's worrying you.

No doubt this will be a bit of a nerve-racking time for you all but fingers crossed the results of the CT scan will bring good news when the time comes.

I hope you'll hear back from some of our members who have been in a similar situation to your mum soon but in the meantime we're thinking of you and sending strength and support your way.

    Kind regards,
