Throat issues

Hello,

I know many people have posted to this effect but I'm struggling to stop thinking about things right now.

I saw a dr about a white patch behind my left tonsil who said it seems like an infection (without looking at it) so I was put on a course of penicillin.

It didn't clear it up and I still have the same symptoms - white patch, swollen tonsil, slight earache, sore throat, tender neck, feeling like something is stuck (all on the same side) and bad breath.

Spoke to my gp again and sent pictures, for him to call and say that he's urgently referring me and to not be alarmed when I see mention of cancer. Well, I'm alarmed.

Any similar experiences of a strange patch behind the tonsil, not on it?

Thank you.

  • Hi Mumma123, thank you for commenting. Hope you're ok. I just wanted to say I had something similar to this years ago. Where about s is the sore spot on your tongue? I had it on the left side at the back of my tongue. I had the dentist refer me to Maxifacial. And they looked at it but like the dentist said it was any normal tongue the taste buds or the side but one looked inflamed to me. And it was so sore and burning. For weeks. I even pushed for them to do an MRI and blood tests but the MRI was clear and the burning must have went away but don't know when. Think mine was brought on by stress. Xx

  • Oh I'm sorry to hear that :( I know you've already had a couple of different drs opinion but you can ask to be seen by someone else again. Hopefully it does mean that everything is okay and like Lisa-Ann said, maybe it's stress related?

I'm okay thank you, still waiting for my initial appointment with ENT but that should be within the next week xx

  • Glad it all went well! Fingers crossed you won't be waiting for too long. I know what you mean about lump at the side and patch though. It almost feels like I've got something stuck behind my tonsil. Still waiting for my appointment!! Xx

  • Hi Lisa .... just popped on to have a look around and I noticed your post . I have had throat cancer ( base of tongue stage 4 I finished my treatment in ... May . Anyway I have had a worrying throat since beginning of December , starting off as a sore throat and now it's exactly how you feel apart from it's down my throat so I don't know if it's an ulcer or even maybe even thrush , it feels like I have a lump in my throat and each time I swallow I get what feels like a shock . Because I am under an oncologist two weeks ago I had a MRI scan that was clear & this last Saturday I had a pet/ct scan and that was also clear , just as it was in September , so I absolutely don't know what it is , maybe with me nerve damage .
what I'm trying to say is this may not be cancer , but you know your own body .

My original tumour showed up on an MRI scan , bit the tell tale sign was lumps in the lymph glands in my neck .

    fingers crossed for you . X x x

  • Hi Lisa-Ann

thankyou for replying to my comment. That sounds reassuring. Mine is on the left side too. At first it was really painful and I thought that my papillae on the back side of my tongue was massive which the doctor said did look a little inflamed back then, since then the pain has pretty much gone but in front of that papillae there looks to be a reddish spot. I just don't know if I'm being paranoid of if nobody is paying attention to that one bit. I guess that could be my anxiety.... not believing medical professionals. It's like a dry mouth feeling but only down that side of the tongue with occasional burning or tingling. I do think stress plays a huge part to be honest because when I am not thinking about it I don't realise I haven't noticed any symptoms of that makes any sense. Just spent 2 hours watching twilight:new moon(excellent) and as soon as it finished I'm thinking about the issue again. Alongside a sore throat that came out of nowhere this evening!

im so glad to hear everything was ok for you and I do take reassurance from this. Good luck with your MRI results for your throat, I hope everything there is ok too xx

  • hi cloclo28

I'm trying so hard not to think too much into it and to try and take reassurance from the medical professionals that I have seen. It's difficult!

oh the waiting for appointments sucks! Fingers crossed it will come through soon. And hopefully be able to put your mind at ease and not have to wait too long for the results. Xx

  • Thank you for replying. I do hope you are ok and sorry you have been through this. I am just thinking all sorts and I am struggling to get out of bed. I can t see it being nothing as the pain is horrible and it feels like I have a hard lump inside. What else could be causing. I don't want to eat anymore. I can see what looks like an ulcer and I can feel the pain of it inside it's been nearly 5 weeks so why is it still hitting. Makes no sense and I am not coping very well. I'm struggling to look after my kids and I don't even know any results yet and I am petrified of being put to sleep so many things going through my head. I had the MRI done less than a day  ago but I have messaged the out patients to see if the cons ultant can call me. I am in so much pain I need help. So so so terrified. I have had the schlock feeling too but now it feels different. Burning and pain. So worried. Xx

  • I've phoned the hospital but the consultant not there until next week. But I've spoken to a HCA and they will try contact him to see if he can get MRI results. Can't function right. Struggled to get out of bed. How can I get through this? Xx

  • Hi everyone again my scan is ok. Thankfully I am so relieved and appreciate all your support and help and advise. My throat feels so sore and uncomfortable and wish knew what it was. It really hurts. I don't even think I have a follow up with the consultant so think I'm left in the dark. And it's really bothering me. It hurts. Think will call and see if can have a telephone appointment w hen he ' s back. Xx

  • Hi Lisa-Ann

so glaD to hear your scan came back ok, maybe your symptoms will start to ease now you have some sort of outcome. Anxiety can play a big part. Yes maybe see if you can speak to the consultant which may give you more peace of mind. Hopefully you start to feel better soon. My Throat on one side has been quite painful today, still managing to eat like an animal. The pain is radiating to my ear. Hoping it clears off soon or my anxiety will take me Back to doctors.
