Throat issues

Hello,

I know many people have posted to this effect but I'm struggling to stop thinking about things right now.

I saw a dr about a white patch behind my left tonsil who said it seems like an infection (without looking at it) so I was put on a course of penicillin.

It didn't clear it up and I still have the same symptoms - white patch, swollen tonsil, slight earache, sore throat, tender neck, feeling like something is stuck (all on the same side) and bad breath.

Spoke to my gp again and sent pictures, for him to call and say that he's urgently referring me and to not be alarmed when I see mention of cancer. Well, I'm alarmed.

Any similar experiences of a strange patch behind the tonsil, not on it?

Thank you.

  • Hello CloClo28

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some health concerns recently. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what this patch may be especially as you've been referred to the hospital.

Many people find this period of uncertainty whilst waiting to see a specialist particularly difficult. It can sometimes help to talk to someone and I wondered if you might find it beneficial to chat things through with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be able to give you some advice and support. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment and that the hospital is able to give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,

  • Going through this too. So sorry to hear you are. I have an MRI tomorrow. The ENT referral me but he said he couldn't see the patch I have in my throat near where my tonsil used to be. But I can see it. The consultant didn't get close to me and I had my sheild on because of COVID. Really concerning but hopefully we will both be ok. Xx

  • Thanks for commenting and so sorry you're going through this too. What did the dr do at your ent appointment? Will you let me know how your MRI goes? We should definitely stay in touch. Good luck tomorrow xx

  • The consultant didn't really do a lot to be honest. I think because I was scared of COVID he had a look in my throat through my shield but that's it. They usually do a camera test but he said he didn't do that because of COVID and how I was but think he was doing it the MRI because he doesn't know what's wrong. But I can see the sore spot near where my tonsil used to be on the left and my partner can see it too. And it's been there over 4 weeks now. So worrying. The way it feels isn't good either. It hurts when I swallow and where the ulcer thing is I can feel it inside of that makes sense. Xx

  • And thank you. Need a miracle. I really do. It just don't feel right. Oh yeah the consultant did say to take Gavascon 4 times a day and prop myself up at night and yes I do have acid reflux but that wouldn't just create 1 ulcer looking  thing wouldn it and make me feel like I have a lump in my throat on that side. I've had ear pain on and off but the throat is pretty much there all the time and also feels like burning tongue and roof of mouth. Xx

  • Hello. Just thought I'd pop by and reply to your message. I have pretty much Sam symptoms as you except I have a sore spot on the side of my tongue, my dentist doesn't think there is anything wrong so I'm not sure if it's all in my head. But I do get this burning sensation on the top and side of my tongue and I have had it about 3 times on the roof of my mouth... it's such a bizarre feeling isn't it? When I try to explain to people they don't have a clue what I'm talking about! I also suffer with heartburn every.single.night! It's getting annoying now haha. Anyway I have a doctors appointment face to face tomorrow, if she says nothing is wrong I suppose I should move on.

hope everything goes well for You and u find out what's causing the issues.

  • Hey, how did your MRI go today? When will you get the results? Xx

  • How did your appointment go? X

  • Hi cloclo28,

not great if I'm honest, I sat in the waiting room for 10 mins and went into the doctor to find it was a different doctor to who had been dealing with me, not one I'm keen on either. He looked at my tongue and said everything looks fine, but I mean looked from a distance with a little torch. I asked him about the burning tingling dry sensations I am having and he basically told me to live with it. I don't really know what to do. I have seen 2 doctors now, and the dentist 3 times, who clearly don't see what I see and are all saying it looks normal, it's not like it is hidden either. My brother pointed out that it could be normal which is why they are saying it's fine. I don't know maybe my anxiety is taking over too much. So I don't know wether to get another opinion, wait 2 weeks and then go back or just live with it like the doctor has said. I'm just worried that if it is something it's going to get worse. The last few days I have been suffering with chest pains that come and go, I think it's stress, I had an ecg done last year and that was fine. Need to wind my neck in a little bit but anxiety is taking over. Sorry for the long rant.

    how are you??? Xx

  • Hi CloClo, had the MRI. Had my eyes closed the whole time. They wanted to do the contrast dye but I didn't want it as worried about all the toxins in my body as it is. Hopefully they can still see clear enough. Just really hoping it's ok. Need a miracle as my throat just doesn't feel right. Feels like a cut inside and a lump feeling in the side. And I can see the ulcer like sore spot near my left tonsil tissue where near my tonsil used to be. Will be amazed if nothing. But really really hoping. How are you doing? Thanks for asking about me. Xx
