Worried about my Son - neck lump

Hi,

First of all, sorry if I sound like a neurotic mother! I am telling myself it's nothing but the worry is there and the what ifs!!
my son is 12 years old, last week I noticed quite a large lump on his neck (had noticed it a few weeks before but much smaller and assumed just a gland) I called My GP for advise and she wanted to see him. He has also lost a lot of weight recently but I had just put this down to growing taller and the start of puberty!
Anyway the GP felt it need to be assessed and sent him straight to the assessment unit at our local hospital! He's had bloods taken and a scan ( this was last Thursday 21st Jan) and it was diagnosed as likely enlarged lymph node and nothing to worry about!
However, his appetite seems to be getting worse (he's always had a good appetite) and he's eating a lot less than usual and becoming fussy!
last night he was awake til gone 1am with pain in his chest/ribs kind of under his left arm, he finally settled and today says the pain had gone!
I am becoming increasingly worried that there is something going on, does anyone have experience of these symptoms and should I be reassured with bloods and scan results?
Thabks in advance

  • Hello Kerry74,

Your son's results are definitely encouraging, though I'm sorry he's been having some discomfort. If you haven't already, you should contact the GP about these other symptoms so they are aware.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply,

He was up again last night with pain on his left side, another lump had also come up on the other side of his neck, other than his reduced appetite and weight loss he is well!
I have contacted the GP today and they are going to repeat his bloods, checking liver , kidney, coeliac screen (he's has Multiple food allergies) and glandular fever, also wants a urine sample so he is getting a thorough check, I drove myself mad with worry last night!
    hopefully all will be well

    take care
