Hi
I'm worried sick. I have been referred to the rapid access clinic. I only found out about it when the hospital called to book my appointment. My GP did not bother contacting me at all.
I'm 48 and had early menopause 9 years ago. I did an ultrasound which showed I have a fibroid back then. I was on the contraceptive pill to protect my bones, as HRT didn't work for me - I was bleeding too often. In 2019 I decided to give HRT another go.and talked to my GP practice. They put me on cchrt Kiloflem without refering me for an ultrasound to check my fibroid. I had breakthrough bleeding on Kiloflem, which I reported to the GP. I was told it's normal. I was then prescribed Femoston Conti which has a higher level of progesterone. When I switched from Kiloflem to Femoston, I had a proper bleed. Again I reported it to the GP who said it was normal as 'they are messing with my hormones'. I seemed to have settled on Femoston. I have been taking it for 3 months now.
In December last year I saw a private GP as part of a BUPA private health assessment and mentioned the bleed. She advised that it would be a good idea to do an ultrasound to make sure the uterine lining is not too thick.
I asked for a referred from my NHS GP, who advised that I should do it privately because of Covid. Anyway I paid for one privately. Unfortunately because of the fibroid, the lining was distorted and it was not possible to measure the thickness. The results showed that the fibroid has vascular activity and the report mentioned a strip of fluid trapped in the lower part. After talking to the GP (not the same one, my GP practice has quite a few) following the results, she said she is sure there's nothing to worry about but she would write to the speacialist to ask if further tests are required - that was on Dec 17. I was advised to call within 2 to 3 weeks if I haven't heard from them, which I did. I was told by the receptionist there was nothing concrete yet. Then a week later, the hospital called me to book my urgent appointment.
I was very shocked - still am- , as I had no discussion with my GP. I didn't hear from them since my 17th Dec phone apppointment. For more than a year they have been telling me it's normal, they did not even offer to get it checked and now they are suspecting the worse.
I'm freaking out. I have been googling a lot, making myself sick and yet I can't seem to stop.
My appointment in on this coming Tuesday - I feel like throwing up.
Sorry about the long post but I can't talk about it to anyone close yet.
Thank you!
K
