Am I overthinking it?

Hi all,

Around 2016 I found a lump under my chin/neck on the left side, at the time I didn't think much of it and thought it would go away. Two years went by and the lump hadn't gone so I mentioned it whilst at was at the doctors for something else and they said they didn't think there was anything to worry about as I didn't have any other symptoms plus it wasn't causing me any bother. Since then I've ignored it, however for over a year now I've also had another lump that's come up on the side of my neck (left side again) and the existing one under my chin/neck has gotten bigger.

Again I put off getting this looked at as I thought I'd just be told the same as before, though I've had some perculiar symptoms this past year. During the first lockdown I decided I would try and stay fit by doing at home exercises, these were mainly high intensity cardio which I hated as I've not done cardio in years - but I was finding that after the workouts my neck/lumps would ache, safe to say I stopped doing those. I've still put off calling the doctors however this evening I've had a glass of gin and found that my neck/lumps got painful after drinking it. Obviously searching these symptoms online doesn't bring up anything positive and hasn't helped at all as now I'm overthinking everything, I've decided I'm definitely going to call the doctors on Monday to finally get it checked out.

Has anyone ever had similar symptoms and it's turned out to be nothing? I'm a 25 year old female, I found it so strange to get pain after drinking gin. I suppose I'm just hoping someone might have a more positive response than what I'm finding online.

Thank you x

  • Just incase anyone comes across this with similar symptoms.. i have been to the doctors today and they have confirmed I've got enlarged lymph nodes in my neck, they don't think it's anything sinister however they mentioned the one on the side of my neck is a bit odd as this is the lymph node linked to scalp issues/scalp drainage but I don't and have never had issues with my scalp (might be helpful to know for anyone reading who has enlarged lymph nodes in the same area and also has scalp issues?). I now have to wait 6 weeks to see if that one goes down and if not I have to book blood tests and call the docs back. They mentioned the one on under my chin/neck will probably never go down due to how long I've had it but didn't say much else on it.

I wasn't questioned very much or asked about the pain after drinking gin, but hopefully this is just probably down to them being confident in that this shouldn't be anything bad.
