Failed Colonoscopy

Good evening, this morning I was due to have my colonoscopy I had one about 20 years ago and although uncomfortable no pain as such!  I had my bowl prep and although disgusting I drank it all! So I was given sedation and as many of you said the Dr proceeded straight away, it was uncomfortable but as he went 'around the first corner' the Dr was pushing so hard the pain was unbearable there was something blocking the bowel  my tears were streaming down my face and needed my angina spray.  Dr removed the scope and said I had to get the procedure repeated urgently but under G A. He (in the short time )saw polys but due to the pain couldn't take biopsies!  With the sedation I had also taken my pain relief (oramorph, paracetamol and my Matrifen patch)  yet I am traumatised and am in quite a lot of pain!
many idea what could have blocked my bowel?

  • Hello Magi.G,

Oh no I am so sorry to hear they had to abort the procedure and that you will need to get it done under general anaesthetic. That is so unfortunate but I hope you can get it done very soon. Poor you it does sound like a traumatic and painful experience. It is difficult to tell really what may have blocked your bowel and you may only find out after you have had the procedure done under general anaesthetic.

I hope that you will hear from others who have had this experience before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

I am keeping everything crossed for you and hope that you get some clarity on all this very soon.

    Best wishes,
