Worrying about lumps- possible lump in skull?

Hi,

I've been reading a lot of posts on the website and thought it maybe time to post and see what responses/advice come of posting. I'm really not sure where to post this as currently my 'diagnosis' is responsive lymph nodes, but something just doesn't feel right.
I have been seeing my GP practice about a rash since just after Christmas. At this point the rash was all over one side of my neck and really itchy. They prescribed a steroid cream and it went down quickly but has since returned as a small patch on my neck. I still experience itching all over my neck and skull, particularly at night. During this time, I had swollen lymph nodes in my neck which have come and gone. I've had bloods taken and the only thing showing up was a vitamin D deficiency. I've had all lymph node areas checked by a doctor and all seems ok from feel, except the lump that I now have behind my ear which prompted my latest drs visit. The lump behind my ear has been present for about a week now.
Something just doesn't feel right. I now keep checking and feeling my head, neck and back regularly and feel like I have a lump on one side of the back of my skull. I've noticed this for a while but just assumed it was part of my skull as it feels hard like bone and isn't round in shape, but now I'm analysing, it's completely asymetrical to the other side of my skull so I'm not ordering if it could actually be some form of lump/tumour.
I feel so paranoid about lumps and bumps and my general health at the minute that I just don't trust my own judgement. I did the daft thing of googling symptoms and at first was convinced I had lymphoma and now I'm struggling to know if any symptoms are genuine e.g. slight breathlessness and coughing/burping after eating or drinking are genuine or just part of me worrying.
Is it worth yet another call to the drs to be checked/reassured or is it normal to have one side of the skull which protrudes more than the other? I don't want to waste drs time but I am spending so much time researching/worrying that it's getting a bit out of hand.
Thanks for reading and please let me know if you have any advice.

  • Hello LM1990 and welcome to the forum.

As you've found out, Google is not our friend when we're worried about unexplained lumps as it tends to show the worse case scenarios and as a result, increase worry and anxiety so do try to stop using it if you can.

If you're still concerned you could book another appointment at your GP, but maybe this time with a different doctor so you can get a second opinion. You can find out more about this just here and if you click here, you'll find some tips on how to get the most out of your next appointment.

I hope this helps and you're able to get some answers and reassurance soon.

    All the best,
