Possible subungual melanoma

Hello everyone. I noticed a black line on my second toenail back in March/April of last year. I ignored it until after Christmas. It's still there and it has grown quite a lot. My whole toenail bed is pretty much covered now. I asked the pharmacist and she told me to see the GP as soon as possible. The GP took one look and said I was being referred to the dermatologist within two weeks. I got the appointment a week later and then I met with the plastic surgeon four days later. I'm having my nail and nail bed removed for biopsy on Monday. I'm actually more anxious over the biopsy. The pain etc. The results will be what they will be I guess. I may change my mind after though. I've been told it can take 6 weeks for the results. Has anyone had their results sooner and any recommendations with looking after my toe, once it's done? Many thanks. ️

  • Hi Cocoaloca!

I too had a similar experience with the speed etc, I sent the GP a picture on 4th Jan and was in the Dermatology unit at the local

hospital on 7th Jan where they decided to removed the mole on my neck there and then. The fear suddenly rushed over me about the potential pain of the actual biopsy in the ten minutes I had between consultant surgery! The results like you say, are what they are and cannot be changed. (Even I too will feel differently I'm sure when I know either way!)

The procedure (I know different from a nail) was actually

pain free, the numbing injection is exactly what an injection feels like, a sharp sting and it's over in seconds.

I've not had my results yet though and I'm on week 3 today. The Consultant said 3 weeks whereas the surgeon said 4-6. I had my stitches out last week and the my wound is healing nicely. I'm trying to be super patient but the impatience is starting to kick in!!

I hope your biopsy goes well ️
