Hard lump under chin

Hi

I'm Elizabeth, I'm 28

I noticed a hard lump under my chin (near the start of my neck  at the front) about 5 days ago. This came up very suddenly and doesn't move when touching it. It doesn't hurt but can feel slightly tender when I stretch my neck. I'm really worried as it's a hard lump and doesn't move. I have felt slightly out of breath today which is not normal for me. I was just looking for advice really.

Thanks

  • Hi hun,
Book your self a GP appointment straight away and have them refer you to have it checked out.

Its better to be safe then delay it any longer.

I'm currently under investigation for neck cancer very unexpectedly but I'd rather know and if it's nothing to worry about atleast it's piece of mind.

I'm 29 so I completely understand the worry.

Here if you ever need to chat x

  • Hi

I have had a lump like this for 8days now and I made contact with my GP on day 6... I was told to wait until day 21 until I contact again. The dr asked if there was any family history of cancer and there is my mum, grandparents, great grandparents, etc.  My anxiety is taking a beating and everyday I wake up counting what number day I’m on. It was not gone down in size and I’ve not been unwell at all. It feels the size of a ping pong ball and is noticeable to others. I’m so down and so worried that my mood/feeling of paranoia is affecting my two young girls.

I do hope that you have a good outcome from your situation but I guess I came to your thread to seek advice too!

    Fingers crossed!

  • Thank you for replying! I will phone my GP first thing tomorrow. I'm sorry to hear that, may I ask what tests you have had?

    Thank you, likewise

  • No problem at all, I think the best thing in scary times like these are to have and offer support to each other.

Mine all started with a couple of recurrent tonsillitis in October through to beginning of December. My GP wanted a throat swab & a blood test to make sure my tonsillitis had cleared up after taking 3 courses of antibiotics. Good news was the infection had gone but my right tonsil was still swollen and had 2 cyst looking lumps on it. I was referred to ENT (ears nose throat) consultants at hospital for further investigation. As you can imagine I was freaked out going from one extreme to another.

I had an endoscopy which was a bendy tube fed through both nostrils and down the back of my throat with a camera & light on the end which takes a closer look and takes pictures. They said it was abnormal so I was then sent for an MRI scan. The MRI came back with a 2cm lump around my lymph node area. I was then sent back for another camera to have another look. After that visit the consultants booked me in for a biopsy of the tonsil and a biopsy of my neck lump. I had a tonsillectomy yesterday and they removed the tissue to be sent off and tested. Unfortunately the only way to biopsy tonsils is with general anaesthetic surgery  so I'm currently in pain. I have another biopsy booked for the 8th of feb where they will use local anaesthetic and cut out the lump to then have that tested in the lab. This is where I'm currently at. I've had a few blood tests done as well but no ones really telling me much about them.

It's all kind of happened out of the blue and it's a very stressful/ worrying time as you can imagine. Lots of people are telling me don't worry it's nothing but it's easy to say that when it's not them going through it. I'm all for positive vibes and hoping this isn't the big C word but I'm also preparing myself for the worst. Il update you when I get my results.

I hope my story helps , please let me know how you get on too! Xx

  • Hiya,

I've seen your post on this thread, why has the GP told you to wait 21 days ! That is terrible ! I would demand to be seen... that is not right of them.

I hope your ok.. ring the surgery again and demand another drs judgement xx

  • Try not to stress too much , lumps in the neck can be multiple things and not life threatening. But for the sake of your anxiety etc keep pushing for more help from the dr xx

  • I'm sorry to hear that you're in this situation. I would've thought your GP should see you asap. Maybe you could call and explain that you're anxiety is very high and you would like to be seen as soon as they can fit you in.

Keep in touch and take care

  • The dr said that if the lump is nothing sinister then it will

have gone within the 21days but I do feel like it should be at least seen before that! I will have to make another call I think I just can't sleep properly without feeling sick with worry.

thank you for your concern and care!

  • I understand and pray that it goes away for you, I just think that it's unfair for the dr to do that without even putting you forward for further investigation. Plus your worrying yourself sick so they need to sort it out for you. Definetely call them back tomorrow and tell them your concerns, you have every right to do so. Wishing you all the best and hope everything's ok for you xx keep us posted xx

  • Thank you.

Yes I will insist on a dr at least seeing it as soon as they can as I'm so very concerned. With the family history too!!

    Please do all keep healthy
